Overtime is usually accrued when covering the on call shift and during our busiest time in summer.
From time to time we might ask the team to cover extra shift in case of sickness or holidays requests.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Our Multi Trade Engineers are responsible for delivering planned preventative maintenance, responsive repairs and ensuring
that we deliver safe, warm, working homes to our customers. This role is key to the delivery of a professional and highly
proactive maintenance and repairs service that our customers can rely on.
This role will be required to carry out any repairs and remedy any defects to Unite Students properties as instructed by
Facilities Managers and Team Leaders. Work will be carried out to the required standard, within health and safety legislation
whilst providing excellent customer service.
This role is banded according to the attainment and demonstration of capability in a wide range of maintenance skills.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensuring that they adhere to Health and Safety legislation, and a safe and secure working environment.
• Accountable for the quality of the maintenance and repair work delivered.
• Ensuring that the work they deliver meets the correct Unite Students standard.
• Carrying out dynamic risk assessments to ensure that they are in a safe working environment and escalating issues
to their line management.
• Completing all digital job tickets required for the works they deliver, raising follow on works orders where
necessesary and to be compliant with Unite Students policies and procedures
• Accountable for raising any maintenance, repair concerns that they identify when performing the tasks that they have
been assigned.
• Reporting any health, safety, security and safeguarding concerns and incidents that they encounter in and around
the properties.
• Supporting the facilties team to provide an excellent service to our customers.
• This role will provide a service to several properties and there will be an expectation to travel between buildings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To carry out multi trade building and facilities work to a high standard as directed by the Facilities Manager, or Team Leader
including more than one of the following skills:
• Electrical
• Plumbing
• Carpentry
• Painting and Decorating

• Plastering repairs
• Tiling
• Masonry repairs
• Groundswork
• Other areas of Construction Multi-Skill
• Comply with Unite Students and British Standards, manufacturers requirements, specifications, legislation, policy and
procedure.
• Collect the necessary materials from our Stores to enable works to be carried out in a single visit.
• Deliver the correct quality of work first time.
• Inform your line managers where necessary materials are required for works to be carried out in a single visit.
• Deliver duties in the most environmentally friendly and efficient way possible to ensure a sustainable service,
• Ensure all work is carried out safely, in accordance with our code of conduct with respect to our customers and their
homes whenever working in or outside of the property.
• Carry out works to the requirements and obligations to the Health and Safety at work Act and all specific Health and
Safety polices required by the Council. Wear appropriate clothing, ID, uniform and PPE for specific tasks. Carry out
dynamic risk assessments for the specific task assigned.
• Offer an excellent level of customer service - be respectful, positive, polite, on time and listen to the needs of
customers.
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times by the use of dust sheets and/or boot covers and leave properties and
a clean, compliant and safe condition.
• Complete digital job sheets after each job promptly and accurately detailing materials
• used, works carried out and any other repairs required for completion whilst inside the property.
• Where possible always complete repairs in one visit, where this is not possible or other works are noticed for
completion, discuss this with the manager / team leader and raise follow up works.
• Work as a team with all the cluster and city operational team, including in particular liaising with Estates,
Housekeeping and Student experience teams
• Maintain stock in depots, stores or van stock at the correct levels. Keep any tools provided in good condition.
• Ensure that vehicles and any other modes of transport are maintained to a high level of cleanliness and any damage/
disrepair is immediately reported to a team leader / manager.
• Attend any training as required by your team leader / manager including (but not limited too) toolbox talks,
safeguarding and any health and safety requirements.
• Requirement to work on the out of hours rota to respond to emergency repairs at evenings and weekends.
• Use the hardware provided to accept jobs, plan our schedule and sign off works when completed for inspection.
• Carry out any other duties that may be required in the future for Unite Students as the team and role develops.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of entry level skills in construction to deliver general duties and minor repairs
• Desirable: relevant construction and facilties management qualifications
• Have relevant post experience
• Be competent and qualified to safely operate tools and equipment
• Understanding of Health and Safety responsibilities
• Understanding of safe systems of work
• Good communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
• Desire and drive for continual development in yourself, along with fellow colleagues
• Willingness to support the local and regional team as required
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Basic computer literacy and the ability to use Microsoft Office and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) maintenance
systems
• Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to offer flexibility in working hours and to take part in the on-call rota
• Ability to work contracted hours over a 5/7 working pattern

The other stuff –
The role will be expected to work an 8-hour shift between 8am and 8pm Monday – Sunday. On occasion, a multi trade
operative may be requested to cover absence or sickness, there may be times you’ll need to work alone or be available for call
out outside of normal working hours
