Security Team Leader

Location: Grays, Essex
Salary: £36,685 per annum
Contract: Permanent, full time
Hours: 40 hours per week across 4 shifts, working a 4 on / 4 off rota including both day and night shifts

About the role

We are recruiting for an experienced Security Team Leader to support the delivery of a safe, secure and welcoming environment within a busy public-facing property environment. This is a hands-on supervisory role, supporting the Security Manager with day-to-day operations, team leadership, incident response and high standards of customer service.

The successful candidate will provide direction and support to Security Officers on shift, ensure operational procedures are followed, and act as a calm, professional point of escalation during incidents, emergencies and customer-facing situations.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily security operations, ensuring duties are completed in line with site procedures, SIA requirements and legal obligations.
• Lead shift briefings, allocate tasks and provide guidance, support and escalation for Security Officers.
• Maintain a visible, approachable and professional presence, supporting a safe and positive experience for visitors, occupiers, contractors and colleagues.
• Respond effectively to incidents, alarms, emergencies and first aid situations, prioritising safety and clear communication.
• Monitor CCTV, access control and incident reporting systems, escalating issues where appropriate.
• Complete accurate incident reports, logs, evidence notes and handovers.
• Support investigations, evidence gathering and follow-up actions.
• Liaise with facilities, cleaning, contractors and operational teams to support the smooth running of the site.
• Identify risks, recurring issues or opportunities for improvement and raise these with the Security Manager.
• Promote a positive, compliant and customer-focused team culture.

About you

You will be confident leading a team in a busy, public-facing environment and able to remain calm, decisive and professional under pressure. You will have strong communication skills, a customer service mindset and the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, visitors, contractors and occupiers.

Essential requirements

• Valid SIA Frontline Licence.
• Previous experience in a security supervisory, team leader or senior officer role.
• Experience of incident response and using CCTV or incident reporting systems.
• Experience working in a busy public-facing environment.
• Strong communication, conflict-management and interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail and the ability to complete accurate reports and handovers.
• First Aid at Work certification.
• ACT or Counter-Terrorism training.

Desirable

• Experience within retail, leisure, hospitality, large venue or property environments.
• IOSH or other health and safety training.
